About Broadband in Town
Town is in Caerphilly. Full fibre broadband is available here, with typical download speeds of around 887 Mbps, well above the UK average of 69 Mbps. Most major providers cover the area, so there is a reasonable amount of competition on price.
Standard broadband runs over the copper phone network. Speeds depend on your distance from the telephone exchange and typically range from around 5 Mbps to 20 Mbps.
Superfast broadband (FTTC) uses a fibre optic cable to your street cabinet, then copper for the final stretch to your home. Most urban and suburban areas can get speeds of 35 to 80 Mbps.
Full fibre (FTTP) runs fibre optic cable all the way into your home. It is the fastest and most reliable option available, with speeds from 100 Mbps upwards.
What's Happening with Broadband in Town?
Town sits within the Caerphilly county borough in South Wales, and residents here are in a strong position when it comes to full fibre broadband. Openreach has now passed more than 1.25 million premises across Wales, covering over 81% of the country on its full fibre (FTTP) network, up from around one million at the end of 2024. That rollout includes the South Wales Valleys corridor, meaning most properties in Town can access speeds up to 887 Mbps on a full fibre connection.
Wales is also outpacing the rest of the UK on take-up. Openreach reported in June 2026 that FTTP adoption across Wales is approaching 50% of eligible premises, well ahead of the UK-wide average of 38%. That means a growing number of households in this area have already made the switch from older copper lines to gigabit-capable fibre. Nationally, gigabit broadband now reaches 89% of UK premises and full fibre covers 82%, according to Ofcom's Spring 2026 update. Town is well above average on both counts.
Alternative network provider Ogi operates across South and West Wales and may offer a second full fibre option for some addresses here, providing genuine competition to Openreach-based ISPs. TFW Fibre, the Transport for Wales initiative, expanded its railway-based full fibre network into central Cardiff and along the Core Valley Lines in April 2026 (ISPreview, April 2026), which could bring further connectivity options to parts of the Valleys region over time.
One deadline worth knowing: BT is switching off the old copper phone network in January 2027. If your landline or broadband still runs over an Openreach copper line, you will need to migrate to a digital service before then. Your provider should contact you, but it is worth checking now to avoid any disruption.
