About Broadband in Falkirk North
Falkirk North is in Falkirk. Full fibre broadband is available here, with typical download speeds of around 882 Mbps, well above the UK average of 69 Mbps. Most major providers cover the area, so there is a reasonable amount of competition on price.
Standard broadband runs over the copper phone network. Speeds depend on your distance from the telephone exchange and typically range from around 5 Mbps to 20 Mbps.
Superfast broadband (FTTC) uses a fibre optic cable to your street cabinet, then copper for the final stretch to your home. Most urban and suburban areas can get speeds of 35 to 80 Mbps.
Full fibre (FTTP) runs fibre optic cable all the way into your home. It is the fastest and most reliable option available, with speeds from 100 Mbps upwards.
What's Happening with Broadband in Falkirk North?
Falkirk North is well ahead of the UK average for full fibre availability. As of spring 2026, around 882 Mbps full fibre (FTTP) speeds are available to most premises in the area, compared to a national gigabit-capable coverage figure of approximately 89% and full fibre (FTTP) coverage of around 82%. Residents who have already connected are among the best-served in central Scotland.
A significant driver of that rollout is the Scottish Government's Reaching 100% (R100) programme, backed by £697 million of public funding and delivered through Openreach. The programme passed a milestone of 100,000 premises connected in Scotland in June 2026, with Falkirk sitting within the Central Scotland build zone. This public subsidy targets premises that the commercial market would otherwise skip, so even harder-to-reach streets in the postcode area stand to benefit.
No independent altnet has announced a specific build programme for Falkirk North at the time of writing. GoFibre, which is active in the Scottish Borders, East Lothian and parts of north-east Scotland, has not yet listed Falkirk among its planned areas. That makes Openreach the primary provider for new full fibre connections here, with Virgin Media O2 covering selected streets via its HFC cable network.
One date worth noting: BT's PSTN copper switch-off is scheduled for January 2027. Any remaining Falkirk North households still on an old copper phone line, including those using ADSL or FTTC broadband tied to that line, will need to move to a digital voice service before then. If you have not been contacted by your provider yet, check your current contract.
